-Brilliant book. I agree with Rowling that it's the best of the series.
-The departure and return of Ron were skillfully done. The intensity of Hermione's wrath/relief rang just right.
-I don't think Rowling ever made up her mind about what she wanted to do with Draco Malfoy, and the limitedness of his role in the final book disappointed me.
-I'm looking forward to the scene in the Deathly Hallows movie where Hermione takes Polyjuice to become Bellatrix and subvert the Gringott's security. There are scenes in this book that are nearly impossible to make interesting in a movie, but that one certainly is not one of them.
-Fred. Maaaaaaaaaaaan. I understand why she had to kill SOMEBODY that we'd grieve over. And it really was the first death in the series that made me say, "No way, he can't be dead." I knew ahead of time about Dumbledore. Moody and Lupin bothered me a bit. Sirius didn't because he simply hadn't been around enough. Same with Tonks, Cedric, etc. But Fred was one half of the duo that provided nearly 90% of the much-needed mood lightening in thousands of pages of drama. And in the epilogue, no mention of George, no son of Ron named Fred (Hugo? WTF?). After almost seven full books of mischief, it seems wrong that the Weasley twins' saga ends abruptly in mourning.
-And about that epilogue. I'm not a fan. We get to find out what Neville Longbottom has become at age 36, but none of the rest? I think Rowling was worried about writing too long an epilogue or something, but c'mon lady, it was a long, long series; you can spare a couple of more pages. Don't even wrap stuff up, but at least give me some more reflection. I don't know. There's no denouement.
-It took me a few post-reading conversations with other people to understand that Snape's last words were "Look at me" because Harry had his mother's eyes. Strangely touching.
